Healing Is Possible

Therapy for Complex Trauma

Ivy Chim Psychotherapy | Asian Trauma Therapist | Hope for Complex Trauma Survivors

You’ve survived so much now it’s time to begin healing.

Many of us have spent years in survival mode — keeping it together on the outside while feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or numb inside. Ongoing or frequent childhood or relational trauma leaves deep emotional wounds. I understand how this kind of pain can shape how you see yourself, how you trust, and how safe you feel in the world.

What Is Complex Trauma?

Unlike single-event trauma, complex trauma often comes from:

  • Chronic emotional, physical, or sexual abuse

  • Growing up in unsafe, unstable, or unpredictable environments

  • Narcissistic or emotionally unavailable caregivers

  • Repeated relational betrayals or boundary violations

  • Ongoing neglect or lack of emotional attunement

As a complex trauma survivor, some maladaptive mechanisms you may have developed include:

  • Persistent anxiety, hypervigilance, or emotional numbness

  • Shame, guilt, or a deep sense of “something’s wrong with me”

  • Difficulty trusting others or maintaining healthy relationships

  • Dissociation, people-pleasing, or feeling disconnected from yourself

  • Flashbacks, emotional triggers, or an inner critic that won’t turn off

But surviving is not the same as living. I’m here to help you feel safe in your own body, your own mind, and your own life.

How Therapy Can Help You To

  • Understand your trauma responses (you’re not “crazy,” you’re adapting)

  • Identify and work through defenses you’ve built to manage distress

  • Build tools to regulate your nervous system

  • Feel more comfortable feeling and expressing your emotions

  • Cultivate inner safety and self-trust

You Don’t Have to Do This Alone!

Many trauma survivors think, “I should be over this by now.”

But healing from complex trauma isn’t about “getting over it” — it’s about gently reconnecting with the parts of you that had to go quiet just to survive.

You deserve a space where your pain is held with care.

You don’t have to relive everything to heal. Our work will be slow, steady, and always guided by your comfort and readiness.

Let’s begin, together.
